Illustrator, Joanna Carrero apparently loves(hearts) skulls as much as we do. Enough to give her heart design it's own set of skulls. A beautiful design combining the symbols of life and death into one. A lovely idea at that. Thanks for sharing it, Joanna!

Zircon777's Skulls
Andreas Ivanof AKA zirkon777 brought us this skulltoon way back in Skull-A-Day 2.0 (2008) and figured it was time to update our archives with some wicked new designs.
Such a great collection of different styles. The first has a 3D effect that makes it come "alive", the second reminds me of some great album cover artwork for some "stoner rock" bands, and the third looks like a classy, sophisticated piece of art worthy of any castle library. I'm digging on all 3 of them, Andreas. Thanks for sharing!

Bot Skull
Industrial designer Jacob Stanton is creating some wonderful concept art of our favorite subject. This Bot Skull is just one of many industrious designs you'll find over at his site.
This cyborgenic cranium is captivating. Like a well styled sports car, the bold look and clean lines create a streamlined skull made for the future. Thanks for sharing you concept with us, Jacob!

Cosmic Skulls
Marcos Carvalho of Chevy Chase, MD is taking us on a trip into our skulls with a collection of illustrations of mythical creatures. Mythical........?
Let your imagination run wildly into the fantastical and give your skull a break from reality. These wondrous images will help take you there. Thanks, Marcos!

Super $hithead Skull Saturday
Today's Super Saturday is a collection of ribbon type skull illustrations, and one mirror, from Jason '$hithead' Mitchell.
It's impressive to see so many different versions of the skull done in such a similar fashion. I'm really impressed with the mirror, especially if that is an etching. There's lots of other skullistrations to check out on Jason's page. Thanks for sharing this group with us!

Illustrated Skulls
Dave the Chimp from Europe sent us a couple of skull items he has completed. He said: "The first are skulls drawn with my left hand while recovering from a dislocated right shoulder (skateboarding injury! yay!) and the second piece is a skull made from ghosts, my take on the Damien Hirst 'For TheLove Of God' ".
Doughnut C says:
Thank you for sharing a small sample of of your work with us. Your body of work is something we all hope to achieve someday. Even after your right side heals don't give up on your left handed skills, because those sketches are wonderful.

FACE OFF Artist Spotlight: Meyoko
Berlin-based Melissa Murillo AKA Meyoko is one of the 10 featured artists in the Skull Appreciation Day 2013 FACE OFF exhibition co-curated by Skull-A-Day and Street Anatomy.
Meyoko's work resides in the darker side of Art Nouveau. Executed in freehand, with a fountain pen her works are open doorways to a microcosmic wilderness populated by divine entities and mythical creatures which intermingle and amalgamate to one another until they ultimately resemble, abstract and hybrid worlds partly vegetal – partly animal. Forests made of luxuriant hair are inhabited by tattooed flowers and plants; by ravens and hummingbirds with strange silky bodies in place of feathers.
Meyoko attempts to dissect the depths of human nature itself and she does it with surgical precision. Her work often incorporates emotions such as melancholia, vulnerability, the fear of abandonment yet she confronts them with dogmas such as utopianism, heroism or humanism to achieve a poetic narrative dialogue.
To see some of Meyoko's amazing artwork in person, visit the FACE OFF: Skull-A-Day VS Street Anatomy show at the International Museum of Surgical Science May 31 till August 25, 2013.

Slashø Skull
Slashø has been a long time fan of Skull-A-Day, but is now here to turn into a contributor for us. This tall sugar skull is a great way to start.
I'm getting a kick out of this elongated fellow. Possibly an animated version of a skull of one of the Nazca people, but definitely something I could see appearing in an episode of Adventure Time(yes, I have kids!).
Let this be a lesson to the rest of you. Slashø shouldn't have waited so long, and neither should you! Submit those skulls for the world to see. Thanks for sharing your skull with us, Slashø, no matter how long it took.

"Shayne Of The Dead" Skulls
'Shayne of the Dead' is an artist and professional Bon Vivant. He tries to do a 'skull-a-day' on his phone everyday and was kind enough to share two great and totally different pieces with us.
I'm not sure who the first bloke is supposed to be, but Mr. Peanut won't get out of my head. Luckily the multicolored, tripped out skull group snaps me back to my own little reality. Such great work is being done these days with technology that is still so new. I wonder what Michelangelo would have been able to do with a Wacom tablet? Thanks for sharing your awesome stuff, Shayne!

Turkish Skull
Visual artist Dunya Atay from Istanbul, Turkey shared with us a illustrated skull that she did.
Delighted C says:
I really appreciate the composition in this work the bright shape floating on a sea of tight black text invokes memories of the Halloween season as we spread out news papers under our pumpkins ripe for the carving. I wish I knew how to read Turkish it looks like an interesting read. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

"Hell followed" Skull
Andy Hunt is an artist/designer from Chapel Hill, NC. He spends his off time designing & illustrating prints and t-shirts. This prophetic illustration brings a special kind of doom with it....
..."And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth." -Revelation 6:8.
The prophecy rings true, my children! Skull art is still some of the best works on the interwebs and this piece proves it! And if you don't like this then you need to see Andy's other site. Especially this. Thanks for the excellent submission, Andy!

Scott's Saturday of Several Different Skulls
Scott Middlehurst has been here before with this symbolic illustration, and now he's back with a diverse set of new skulls in all different mediums.
Scott knows how to keep his creativity flowing by switching up his game(love the hobo nickel). He's a prime example of how even one person can do so many different works of the same subject. It's almost like some kind of theme for a skull art blog I know of....... Thanks again, Scott!

Winged Skull
This "winged skull" illustration comes from Ryan Harris. A collage of geometric shapes patterned into a skull with some wicked headgear.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this in our inbox was a robotic style Mayan headdress. The almost hypnotic symmetry draws you into a geometrical vortex of mathematical proportions. Thanks for sharing your work, Ryan!

"Dead Stupid" Skull
Fouapa is a French illustrator based in Paris who works around the notions of stupidity, vulgarity, and nostalgia. His "Dead Stupid" skull displays a dunce who's not afraid of death.
This is a great comical look at what could happen if you don't use the brain inside your skull. To quote an American rapper, but using a French twist, "La vie sans la connaissance, c'est la mort dans le déguisement". Be sure to put your skull to a good and smart use today, and every day for that fact. Thanks for the reminder, Fouapa!

Shaun's Skullistrations
Shaun Gordon is an illustrator working in the U.K. He works on a variety of neat designs, but lucky for us he includes a good dose of skulls in his work. Here's just 3 examples...
I totally dig these bold designs with such bright colors. Dark and mysterious skulls have their place as well, but sometimes we have to remember to laugh at life, and that first skull just strikes me as comical. Plus, I love Shaun's use of the all seeing eye(I'll let you figure out why). Thanks for sharing the sweet designs, Shaun!

Lovely Bones
Malcolm Fisher from Sheffield, England, created this illustration "Lovely Bones" with the words "I Will Follow You Into the Dark".
If you are familiar with the band Death Cab for Cutie, then you will recognize the phrase as the name of a song of theirs. It's actually one of my favorites about love and death. There are stories of couples that die short of each other. It's said the last one to die had a broken heart. While some my die of a broken heart, there are many that live on even if their heart is broken. If you believe in the afterlife, your mate, family, and friends will be there to great you when ever your time is up.

Illustrated Skull
Denver, CO artist P78 of Thicket & Brush shared one of the pieces of his recent semi-daily work with us.
He wrote: "I been plunking away at art for many years now and recently started working on sugar-type skulls (and, in fact, started out trying to draw one a day but... too much detail! Can only finish one every day or two). And then I found you! I gotta say your site is flush with inspiration -
glad you folks are doing what you do."
Strung C says:
Thank you for finding us, you have an interesting style to your work and I really enjoy the range of colors and shapes you work with in creating your skulls. Keep up the pace with your regular (daily) work, it is always nice to know that we have the power to inspire, and now you have the pleasure of sharing your power with the next artist out there that finds the site.

Skull Illustration
Nadia from the United Kingdom told us: "My illustration is a pen drawing of a skull with candy colour tissue background. Not just skin deep."
Carnival C says:
When you said candy it made me think of cotton candy, and yes skulls and cotton candy do go well together as demonstrated HERE. Thank you for sending your illustration to us for sharing.

Super Skullistration Saturday
John MDC is a "bone"ified bad ass skull artist. Almost everything he creates is of the skull. He's been featured on our site multiple times (here, here, here, and here) and that should stand as a testament to the multitude of skulls he has to submit.
John's site is teeming with skull art. Prints, jewelry, shirts, etc. I don't know if I've ever seen so much skull art produced by one person, aside from our own Skull Master of course. Thanks again for the great submissions, John!

"Villian" Skull
This digital "villian" skull is courtesy of Julien Masson from the UK.
Northwest Pacific art styles are great for their bold characteristics. Animals are often the focal points, but this human skull set within makes me think of a werewolf. Thanks for the great submission, Julien!
