Train Skull

Five year old Oliver in Perth, Western Australia made this wooden train skull.  Proud papa Dave told us: "I immediately thought of Skull-a-day when I saw it. :)"

Scott's Saturday of Several Different Skulls

Scott Middlehurst has been here before with this symbolic illustration, and now he's back with a diverse set of new skulls in all different mediums.

Scott knows how to keep his creativity flowing by switching up his game(love the hobo nickel).  He's a prime example of how even one person can do so many different works of the same subject.  It's almost like some kind of theme for a skull art blog I know of.......  Thanks again, Scott!

Wood Burned Skull Jewelry Box

Louis Cordova said, "This was my first time at wood burning. Thought it came out good, so I made it into a jewelry box."

My favorite thing about wood burned pieces of art, is the scent. There is something lovely about using a hot metal to burn wood into designs. If Louis hadn't mentioned it, I would have never known this was his 1st attempt at wood burning. I'm glad he was pleased with his work and turned his skull creation into a practical jewelry box.

Carved Coconut Skull

Scott Middlehurst carved a coconut "into a skull using my Dremel tool and some diamond points".

I love the rawness of this carved skull. That's probably from the wood grain of a coconut. That has to be a difficult and unpredictable wood to work with. The skull reminds me of a tribal mask. It also reminds me of "what if" stories related to being stranded on a deserted island. Surely, I would need to do something creative while waiting for rescue. Perhaps it would be making a skull out of a coconut...though without a Dremel to help.

Super 'Skulluxe' Saturday

If you've been reading Skull-A-Day for any length of time then you are sure to have been witness to the the bright and bold world of Dan Springer of Skulluxe fame.  Now Dan's back with so much new stuff that A Super Skull Saturday was in order.

Most of Dan's works are painted on wooden panels, but I see a new trend has caught his eye with the painted bike bells.  I'm sensing a pattern of awesomeness appearing over at Skulluxe.  Perhaps these will also catch the eye of a fellow skull and bike lover over at his site (hint, hint, Paul).

Be sure you check out the rest of Dan's terrific works of more than just skulls.  He's got a unique flair that really pops and brings vibrancy to the mundane woodgrains he uses for a canvas.  Thanks again for the incredible submissions, Dan!
