Bob the Deceased Builder Bag

Dawn "had fun giving new life to an old bag and Bob the Builder got a cool skull makeover." "Bob the Builder" has been airing for over 10 years, and perhaps it's time for a new look. I wonder what Bob the Deceased Builder would be using his equipment for? Perhaps up-keeping cemeteries, constructing mausoleums, and visiting ship graveyards, hoping to get a pirate ship up and sailing again. I think we need a new spooky kids show like this. Go to Dawn's blog, Potionsmith, to see the before photo and what supplies she used for the makeover.

Zircon777's Skulls

Andreas Ivanof AKA zirkon777 brought us this skulltoon way back in Skull-A-Day 2.0 (2008) and figured it was time to update our archives with some wicked new designs.

"Presence"
"Rebirth"
"Vanitas Still Life"

Such a great collection of different styles.  The first has a 3D effect that makes it come "alive", the second reminds me of some great album cover artwork for some "stoner rock" bands, and the third looks like a classy, sophisticated piece of art worthy of any castle library.  I'm digging on all 3 of them, Andreas.  Thanks for sharing!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge - Day 2: Orange Nails

Oh boy, am I sleepy! This new job is already kicking my butt! Is it Friday yet??

I did manage to get the next theme in the 31 Day Challenge done though! But I must say that I struggled with this one! While I really love burnt orange, especially in polish form, I struggled with coming up with something for this. I literally painted 3 different base colors for 3 different concepts on Sunday night and just couldn't make it happen. I jumped between orange daisies, damask print, and shudder fruits or vegetables. Needless to say, I abandoned my Sunday night attempts.

Fast forward up to tonight - I wasn't able to get started on my nail art as easy as I would have wanted after work so I was starting to worry about getting my work done. I decided to turn to my trusty friend google and search for famous "orange" paintings and came across the work of Mark Rothko. For those who don't know, Rothko is famous for the abstract expressionist style of his simple, yet bold pieces. They really spoke to me and I knew immediately that I wanted to recreate a bunch of his paintings.
Now, before you tell me that these aren't orange nails, please note how a majority of the color is orange ;) I hope that isn't cheating! I tried to choose paintings that were mostly orange, but I also wanted to add some variety and excitement and threw in some purples, blues, and reds.
Here are the paintings I found inspiration from (in a totally random order because blogger HATES ME):
Thumb
Index Finger
Middle Finger
Pinky
Ring Finger
I'm happy with my simple semi-orange mani and I hope you like it as well! :)

Happy Polishing :)

60 Minute Skull Study

This painting comes from Tobias Wilbur with the title "60 Minute Skull Study". I'm not sure if he finished this painting in 60 minutes or not, but it certainly deserves a little bit of your time today.

If this did take merely an hour to complete then I'm even more impressed.  It looks great even if it took all day.  Thanks for sharing it, Tobias!

"Good Friend"

French artist BL67 paints a wonderful picture of a "Good Friend".  This acrylic on canvas painting of a dog who was "man's best friend" has turned 180 degrees on the former master.

Nervous as he may be, he can't turn down the attention.  Perhaps he simply misses the feeling of flesh on his bones, or maybe it's because he can't run away without any muscles.  None the less it's a great painting that we thank you for sharing, BL67!

Bloody Gruesome Skull

If you're new around here then you might not recognize the name Matt Gregg, but if you've followed Skull-A-Day long enough you would definitely recognize this and this. Now Matt is back with his latest and most gruesomely awesome painting created with spray paint, acrylic, ink, blood, and xacto beatings on canvas.

Simply put, this is f'ing awesome!  Sinister and determined, this demonic overlord WILL devour your soul!  I don't know if Oderus Urnugus was any kind of influence, but I'll bet he would like this.  Thanks again for sharing, Matt!

Painted Wedding Skeletons

Kristina Chavez said "My father, Henry Chavez, of Brownsville Texas, painted this picture for my husband and I for our wedding in October of 2012. He knows how much I love skeletons. He took a wedding photo and turned us into our own Dios de Los Muertos."

I love personalized handmade gifts. This one was truly made with love. Kristina is a lucky lady to have such a talented father, that turned the couple into calaveras. Weddings are full of memories, and this is a great way to memorialize that day.

Rainbow Skull

I know it might be hard to believe the title, but Ron Boyer has done a beautiful job of filling his skull full of color and life.

The radiating sun in the forehead adds light to the illuminating glow that shines with luster and reflectivity.  The colors are astounding in their boldness.  I never thought I would ever see all the colors of the rainbow create such an effervescent skull so full of anti-life while also making me crave some Lifesavers candy.  Thanks for sharing your work, Ron!

[BONUS] Paint by Numbers Skull In-Use

Anne Williams Gilardi of Pompton Lakes, NJ, used Noah's 167. Skull By Numbers to paint this skull.

This is a great painting! This is probably one of hardest available projects. I haven't see many people attempt it, so congrats to Anne for completing it well!

We love seeing what people create using our available Free Stuff. If you make something using something from the Free Stuff section of Skull-A-Day, please submit it to us! We'd love to share it!

Thomas' Trio of Skulls

Thomas Maguin is a French skull making artist here to show us his diversity with this trio of skulls.

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength."

True words spoken by someone you know.  Diversity teaches us to appreciate all things, and I appreciate you sharing yours with us, Thomas.  Thanks!
