Zoya's Earth Day Nail Polish Exchange

Hiya everyone! I wanted to share a really awesome offer with you all. It's possible you've seen this floating around the internet already, but the lovely folks over at Zoya are holding an awesome Earth Day Nail Polish Exchange Promotion!

So what is this promo about?? Well, the idea is to get rid of your old polishes that are not Big 5-Free. The "Big 5" refers to the chemicals used to make the polish - Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP and Camphor - and they are all around yucky for the planet (and you!). Since Earth Day is tomorrow, Zoya (whose polishes are all Big 5-Free) is offering 50% OFF your ENTIRE purchase through April 26th!

Their only request? That you send them back some of your old polishes that aren't Big 5-Free so that they may dispose of them in the proper way. The exchange process is done entirely on the honor system. From their website:

To clarify the exchange: You do not have to send us the exact amount of bottles that you are ordering. You can send any quantity up to that amount. You can also donate. If you decide you don't want to do either, it's ok "Offer is not contingent on customer returning polish" - we will still love you and will ship the Zoya polishes... we'll just send you on a guilt trip for a while :)

I think this is such an amazing idea and so great to see a company caring about the environment just a little bit ;)

If you haven't made an account or purchased from Zoya before, I have a code that can get you a bottle for free! I've mentioned their Share the Love Program before, but it's worth mentioning again. Basically, if you follow the link below and make a new account, you'll find a coupon code for one free polish! Pretty awesome if you ask me :)

Let me know if you end up getting anything! I'm still trying to narrow down my choices...so indecisive!

Happy Polishing :)

Mail Us Your Skull!

The official Skull Appreciation Day 2013 celebration will be held in Chicago this year and we've got some great plans afoot! We'll be posting details soon, but in the meantime we want to let you know of one way you can participate (no matter where you are in the world)... mail us a skull!

For the previous 2 years we've had people send in mail art for us to display at our Skull Appreciation Day exhibitions and this year is no exception! Want to take part? The official call for entries with full details is HERE.

If you're not familiar with mail art, the idea is simple, anything that can make it through the mail system with proper postage on it is acceptable! Many people like to stick with 2-D work on a standard sized postcard, but the sky's pretty much the limit. Need some inspiration for what to do? Check out some of the submissions from the last few years on the Skull Appreciation Day Mail Art blog!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 6.47

While on vacation in Massanutten, VA, I found some skulls.

This one was taken early in one morning.

These were found while my daughter was building a snowman.

Keep sending those pictures in, we always love seeing what our skull hunters find. Anyone is welcomed to participate, it's fun and it's easy. If you see a simulacra skull, photograph it and send those pictures in to our submissions address with a little something about what it is really and maybe a little about you.

Stenciled Skulls

Choncey Langford is here to stylize our Saturday with these 3 stencil skulls: Tres Craneo Plantilla.

Even though they're all stencils this is a nice trio of various styles. I could easily see these working well for other mediums. Plus, green is my second favorite color, behind black. Here's to everyone having a great "green" day! Thanks, Choncey!

April Nail Art Challenge - OOTD

Well, as I'm sure we all predicted, I am behind on my April Nail Art Challenge. I just...I have no excuse! Well, sort of. I just really liked my mani and couldn't part with it yet. I'm sure we've all been there.

Alas, I finally caved and started brain storming about the next theme in this challenge - OOTD (outfit of the day). Because I honestly don't remember what I wore 3 days ago, my inspiration was a simple tank top that I've had for awhile, but still one of my favorites. I've wanted to recreate this pattern for a long time so I'm happy I finally got to take the plunge and go for it.
The base color is my new baby, OPI's My Vampire is Buff (and I love it - big surprise!) and the grey blue is Sephora by OPI's Break a Leg-Warmer!
I am so happy with how these turned out! Yeee! But...how am I supposed to take these off and do the next mani so I can get caught up on the challenge?? D: First world laquerista problems ;)

Happy Polishing! :D

[BONUS] Cross-Stitch Skull In-Use

EJ Justice in Georgia, use Noah's 258. Cross-Stitch Skull to needlepoint a Christmas gift for a dear friend.

We received this submission a while ago, but it got lost in the shuffle of regular submissions. She mentioned at the time of submission, "Now I'm looking for an old clock or barometer, with a convex glass face, that we can use to frame it for the appropriate amount of leer." I'm hoping she found that, as it would give an extra eeriness to it!

We love seeing what people create using our available Free Stuff. If you make something using something from the Free Stuff section of Skull-A-Day, please submit it to us! We'd love to share it!

Yoga, Meet Painting

I've mentioned before that I like to keep my yoga and my artwork separate, but earlier this month I painted a large picture that is definitely drooling yoga all over the place. Figured I'd share it here for those of you that don't follow me on Twitter. I don't actually like this painting, but I try to keep this Andy Warhol quote in mind when I create.

Titled April Flowers. Acrylics on Canvas. It's me - in king pigeon pose (eka pada rajakapotasana) with some visible internal anatomy and flowers for hair. There's some energetic buzz going on there near the heart. The whole thing is actually a little larger than life sized.
